Why do people think the Narnia movie's aren't Christian movies?

I read the whole series back in the early 70's. There was a lot of Christian symbolism that I could see. However, I also read an interview with CS Lewis in which he claimed he wrote the books with no religious basis. He said he just wanted it to be a fun read for children. So I guess you could call them either way, Christian or just fantasy.
