Why do cats smell BAD 99 percent of the time?

I don't know whats going on with the cats by you but I have never had a cat that smelled. The only time there is a smell is right after they take a good healthy crap and then it is the litter box that smells and not them. Do you live by a dump or sewage treatment plant and that is what you are smelling?
