Why is it so many girls need to feel "safe" and "protected"? ? ?

Women saying they like to feel small and protected generally doesn't have anything to do with their proactivity. Personally, I am very independent but i like to feel small compared to my boyfriend simply because why would a woman want a guy to be smaller than her? I would say with women it's mostly a physical thing not because they feel weak.
