Why are some women so quick to give up everything for a man? is it love or desperation?

IDK. That bugs me. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but to me the guy would be taking care of the girl. A guy who has to mooch off a girl is a loser, and my first thought is always Is that the best she can get?
